HALLOWEEN: Will you ever celebrate it again?

There is a tendency from people to celebrate anything and everything carelessly without checking the origins of  it. One of the hollidays that is the most celebrated is Halloween. People view it as something funny, parents let their children out disguised as demons and the question is: is it really safe to celebrate Halloween once you know that it is a holliday celebrating the dead, the spirits and demons ?

2) Halloween costumes, candy, and trick or treat:

Some of the Celts wore ghoulish costumes so that wandering spirits would mistake them to be one of them and would leave them alone. Others offered sweets to the spirits to appease them. In medieval Europe, the Catholic clergy adopted local pagan customs and had their adherents go from house to house wearing costumes and requesting small gifts.

3) Halloween pumpkins, or jack-o’-lanterns:

In medieval Britain, “supplicants moved from door to door asking for food in return for a prayer for the dead,” and they would carry “hollowed-out turnip lanterns, whose candle connoted a soul trapped in purgatory.” Others say that the lanterns were used to ward off evil spirits. During the 1800’s in North America, pumpkins replaced turnips because they were plentiful as well as easy to hollow out and carve. The beliefs behind this custom—the immortality of the soul, purgatory, and prayers for the dead.

So now that you know some of the main customs of Halloween, will you again celebrate that holliday ? Worse than that, will you let your children wandering outside at night ??? When a holliday is originally for the dead and demons it will ALWAYS be for the dead and demons no matter how hard people try to change it into fun. So be careful and always seek knowledge on what you are celebrating especially when your children are involved.
